Level’s Mike Angelucci, CFP® joins WBEN’s A New Morning to explain why Wall Street surged the day after the midterm elections, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped more than 1,500 points for its best day since April 2025. (Starts at the 1:40 mark).
Mike explains that markets have historically liked divided government. When Congress and the White House are split, big policy changes are harder to pass, and investors tend to welcome knowing the rules of the game. He also points to hopes for lower inflation, with oil falling on expectations of a pullback in the conflict with Iran and the possibility of tariff relief. In tech, he notes that new scrutiny of data center build-outs could actually help some of the largest companies hold on to cash, and that cooling some of the AI enthusiasm may not be a bad thing given the enormous spending involved.
Will the rally last? Mike points to investor Ben Graham’s famous line: in the short run, the market is a voting machine, but in the long run it is a weighing machine. One big day reflects enthusiasm, but how these policies actually play out over time is what matters for long-term investors.
